FAQ 1

How do serve the law society with my notice of intention to apply for registration as a legal practitioner?

First you need to create a profile on our online portal, by CLICKING HERE and providing all the required details. When your account is approved you will receive an email notification and then proceed to login. Update all the details missing from your profile and use the Apply for Registration button to initiate your submission.

Important to note is that the application will take approximately 10 working days if all requirements are have been met

How do I choose a Lawyer?

The Law Society does not assist anyone in choosing lawyers but encourage people to choose lawyers they are comfortable with. You can choose these lawyers in terms of charges and their experience. Available for a small fee is a directory for all registered lawyers in private practice or you can search for the lawyers.

I have just attained my LLBs degree and transcript from foreign university, what next?

The first step in converting a foreign LLBS qualification in order for one to be registered as a legal practitioner in Zimbabwe is to go to the Council for Legal Education. Their offices are situated at Number 7, Waterhill Avenue Eastlea, Harare. Tel: 04 2788446/7 or 0715 036 315 or you can visit their website http://www.cle.gov.zw.

How do I Complain against a Lawyer?

You are advised to make a written complaint to the Executive Secretary. To speed up the process your written complaint should give out all relevant details and where possible attach relevant documents in support of the same. Kindly provide your full contact details including, full name, phone number, e-mail address and postal address to facilitate for return communications and updates and also your national identity number.

Duties Of The Law Society Of Zimbabwe

The Law Society of Zimbabwe was formed in 1981 to replace the previous bar association. The membership of is drawn from all registered legal practitioners residing in Zimbabwe whether in private practice, in commerce or in civil service. The primary duties of the law society are:

Promote the study of the law

Maintain a register of members

Control of admission of new members to the profession

Generally control and manage the legal profession

To contribute, undertake or make recommendations on legal training

Represent the profession and articulate its views on various issues

Promote justice, defend human rights, rule of law and the independence of judiciary

Regulate the profession in respect of continuing training, discipline and trust accounts
